FCCLA Quiz Bowl Team Advances to Nationals!

For the first time since the organization was founded in 1945, the FCCLA/LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl competition was held virtually during November 2020. From 58 total teams competing online, 37 qualifying teams were selected to advance to compete in the Interviews round, and Thrall FCCLA was one of those 37 teams. From the Interviews round, 16 teams were then selected to compete at the National Leadership Conference, and Thrall FCCLA's Quiz Bowl team made this cut to top 16!
FCCLA/LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl is a team competition that challenges students’ knowledge in six content areas: personal finance, consumer rights and responsibilities, technology, health and safety, environment, and FCCLA knowledge. Questions come from a variety of sources including Family and Consumer Sciences textbooks, reference guides, content area websites, National FCCLA and LifeSmarts websites, and other local or online resources.
“LifeSmarts gave me the opportunity to learn about subjects that I previously wouldn’t have looked in to, and it helped me build a stronger friendship with my teammates,” said Emma Burkhart, chapter Vice President of Public Relations. Teammate and chapter President, Brooke De Angelis, added, “LifeSmarts is valuable because it covers knowledge that has practical applications to your adult life; for example, I wouldn’t have known what a 401(k) was until I actually had to cross that bridge. Having a grasp of that knowledge before having to apply it
relieves some of the stress of growing up.”
Contratulations to these students and Thrall FCCLA advisor, Mrs. Sarah Stribling! Best of luck at Nationals!
