Letter to Community from Supt. Hooker

It is with a great deal of sadness that we are informing you of the death of Carter Burns, one of our Thrall Elementary kindergarten students. This tragic event has affected the entire school and community, and our prayers are with Carter’s family during this time of loss.

The family invites you to attend the services as follows and will find comfort in your presence. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, also at Providence Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the Burns family has requested donations to establish a scholarship fund in honor of Carter:

We will provide grief counselors to anyone in our school community who feels they may need this support. Additionally, we have engaged our crisis intervention team to provide extra counselors who will remain on campus to assist the teachers and students. These counselors will remain available throughout the entire first week after we return from Christmas break and will be available to assist.

Please contact the school at 512-898-5293 or by email Amanda Bexley, Elementary Counselor, or Sherri Maruska, Elementary Principal, smaruska@thrallisd.org if you feel that further follow-up with your child would be helpful or have questions.

Thanks for your support as we move forward, and please keep their family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of loss and grief.
