Tiger and Tigerette Golf competed in the Regional Golf Tournament at the Oso Beach Municipal Golf Course in Corpus Christi on April 26 and 27. Colby Jaeger was the Regional Champion, and the Girls team was Runner-Up and qualified for the State Tournament.
In Corpus Christi, the Tigerettes faced some fierce wind as well as competition. The four teams in the running to advance to state were Thrall, Mason, San Saba and Weimer.. On the first day, our Tigerettes came in fresh and ready to play with Colby Jaeger shooting a 94, Whitney Gibbs with a 102, Kami Renfro with a 110, and Shelby Hoffman with a 120. Their combined score of a 426 landed them in 2nd place at the end of Day One. The Tigerettes were only16 strokes behind the first place team, Mason.
With a chance at state on the line for Day Two and all four teams playing in the same groups, competition was intense. The pressure was on, and our girls were determined and motivated to advance to state. While we stayed consistent, the other teams once again succumbed to the pressure. With a few birdies and a strong mental game, the Tigerettes held on to the 2nd place spot and were declared the Regional Runner-Up to Mason, with Weimer coming in 3rd place. Colby Jaeger took eight strokes off from her first day score and turned in an 86. Whitney Gibbs was consistent and brought in another 102. Kami Renfro provided a 120, and Shelby Hofffinished shot a 122.
Individually, Colby Jaeger, who came with the goal to win it all, achieved her goal with an overall score of 180, and she is the Regional Champion!
Looking ahead, the Tigerettes are ready to return to the Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin for this year's State Golf tournament on May 15 and 16.
Christian Dubec led the boys team in scoring at the Regional tournament with a two-day total of 185. Tiger Golf, as a whole team, improved 45 strokes from their Regional tournament appearance last year.
